This play uses our standard ‘Screen & Seal’ logic, but replaces the horizontal cross-screen with a strong-side Vertical Back-Screen. This vertical action creates a “vertical stretch,” forcing the zone defenders to collapse or chase, leaving the Big Man (#5) entirely alone to seal the middle of the paint.
The brilliance of Goliath is that it attacks the structural weakness of any zone defense: communication. By forcing one defender to choose between a corner three and a layup, you mathematically guarantee a high-percentage shot.
